Home decorating trends during lockdown 2020

With the coronavirus seeming to not end anytime soon, it can become a bit mundane having to stay home and see the same color palettes, same decorations, and some repetitive structures every day. The last quarter of 2019 saw an increase in home decor trends as more and more people ventured towards vamping up their homes in preparation for having to stay at home for the foreseeable future.

Top home decor trends visible

As seen across social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter, it seems that everyone is trying to curb their lockdown boredom or make work from home more exciting by vamping up their accommodations.

Here are some of the top home decorating trends as seen on social media:

  1. People, though mostly millenials, are unleashing their inner artist by dabbling in different paint mediums, and different painting styles. They are using their creativity to think out of the box and spruce up certain aspects of their home. For instance, as seen on TikTok, many Millenials have taken to upgrading their bedroom walls with murals of their favorite celebrities or favourite movies/television shows. This can certainly brighten anyways day, and can definitely add that much needed pop of color.

  2. Because of lockdown, people aren’t able to experience nature as they once used to. In most places, public parks and nature reserves are still shut, turning people creative in terms of bringing nature to them. With accommodation in many cities being limited to apartments, most people do not have the space for a garden. People instead are becoming creative by planting vertical gardens.

Being surrounded by plants is always a good idea because plants can make you feel relaxed, and brighten up any room. Not only that, but plants can help curb any lockdown sickness you may feel.

Interior Designers: their forecast on 2020 trends

Interior designers have had a lot to say when it comes to what’s hot and what’s not for trends in the interior design world for 2020. Here are a few forecast of trends that interior designers believe will take over 2020 and make up for the devastating start of the year.

Bold is better. One of the top forecasted trends to make working from home seem a tad exciting is to spruce up any space with bold statements such as a bold color or a bold pattern. Whether it be funky patterned tiles, or mosaics, or a bold neon-colored wall, bold is the way to go in 2020.

If you’re not a fan of bold statements but are looking for more space so that working from home or being under lockdown does not make you feel claustrophobic, interior designers predict that the trend of arched doorways, mirrors and entrances is the way to go. If you’re looking to completely invest in revamping your loft, apartment, or house and don’t mind the hassle of having to break down walls, opt for an arched entrance in between rooms to enhance the space of both rooms, for an airy feel. However, if you’re not ready to commit to such drastic changes, opt for an arched mirror as a way to enhance space. Mirrors add dimensions, and arches make a room feel airier.
